Leighterton and Oldbury on the Hill

28 November 2007
.
On his last day as chairman of Stroud Rambling Club Jim takes the South Cots out for a walk from Leighterton.
.
Out past the cemetery with the Australian and New Zealand Airmen's graves
..
And across fields towards Westonbirt
.
A short stop for a bit of head scratching
.
Before we head back along the path towards Didmarton
.
More serious thought for Jim
.
As he points out the trees marking an old drovers' road
.
It's funny how the leader of the group always likes to show off
.
Joyce's Pond on the map - with Joyce's rug? - wonder what she has been up to?
.
We reach St Arild's church
.
And stop for coffee
.
Our route takes us along an old track
.
And across a smart stud farm
.

.
.
.
.
Everybody has five wooden balls - its one point for the big one in front, then 2, 3, 4 and five for the little one at the back
.
We are joined by a couple of runaways
.
Who are eventually unceremoniously recaptured
.
As we head back into Leighterton for an excellent lunch at the Royal Oak

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
