Around the Dursley hills

24 November 2007
.
The long stay car park in Dursley marks the start of Bernard's figure of eight walk on a gloomy day.
.
And we set off through suburban Dursley passing this sight - could we take it with us as a porta-loo?
..
Before heading over fields round the valley
.
Pausing to remove some rather dangerous barbed wire
.
Then a chance for some in depth discussion
.
Before an experience with some dense undergrowth
.
Followed by a pause to clean boots and wait for backmarkers to catch up
.
A sign in front of a row of cottages - must be a web site on it somewhere
.
Our path takes us over this seriously high bridge
.
And round some man made ponds
.
Before we climb Cam Long Down
.
With views behind us across the valley
.
And from the top over the Severn
.
We pause on Cam Peak
.
Before heading down the steep side
.
Into Dursley
.
Where we take lunch before we leave for the afternoon walk, waved on our way by those leaving the walk
.

We look back at Dursley as we climb Stinchcombe Hill
.
Pausing at Breakheart Quarry
.
Where we see signs of the old British Nuclear Fuels establishment
.
And we come out at the top of the hill
.
Before walking down into Waterly Bottom
.
And what do we do when we have done a long steep downhill plod? We walk back up again
.
And with light fading we head back into Dursley

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
