Luckington and the source of the River Avon

21 November 2007

.
Our leader, John, sets a fine pace out of Luckington on our quest to find the source of the river Avon.
.
We eventually catch him up - this could come in useful for restraint!
..
We continue through Wick Farm
.
And wonder why this farm building is going to wrack and ruin.
.
Is this the source of the river?
.
Not today!
.
At last the photographer gets to the front for an action shot!
.
Reaching Sopworth
.
We pass the church
.
And continue towards the source
.
Here we are - Crow Down Springs - source of the river Avon, Sherston Branch!
.
Near Sherston we make our way down to the river
.
Do we cross the clapper bridge?
.
No, but we can't resist a photo
.
More posers spotted on a garden wall on our way back to Luckington
.
We reach Luckingtom Court and church
.
Where the BBC filmed the wedding scene in Pride and Prejudice a few years ago
.

We lead along the drive and back to the pub for lunch.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
