Leonard Stanley to Coaley Peak

13 November 2007

.
In the absence of an ailing Bernard the walk is lead by one of our younger members, Richard (! ed.)
.
As we start outside the old church at Leonard Stanley
..
And head off up the road
.
You can just spot the chains fortunately preventing these two from getting further than the gate
.
Already we are getting fine views across the Severn Vale
.
As we head up Gypsy Lane
.
Reaching the top of the hill and stopping to look at the Uley Long Barrow
.
Then we take in more views over to Stinchcombe Hill and the Severn
.
With items of interest being identified on this plan
.
Coffee is taken sheltered from the wind
.
After which we head off down the Cotswold Way
.
The undergrowth getting quite tough as we head along under the hill
.
Passing this ancient tree
.
And stopping to hug this one - send for the men with white coats
.
Users of this path out onto Frocester Hill will be pleased to see this new kissing gate
.
Nearly back to Leonard Stanley and we see the Church peeping out from behind the old Priory. A good walk - get well soon Bernard

Photos and captions thanks to Richard (and Diane).

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
