Framilode and Barrow Hill

17 October 2007

After heavy overnight rain, the sun shines on Allen's first walk as leader - he astounds us with stile and gate statistics
.
Following the route of the Stroudwater canal, we pause at Saul Church
..
Then head across to the South bank of the Arlingham loop of the River Severn
.
Looking downstream in the Slimbridge direction, with the Cotswolds in the distance
.
Fretherne Church with its knobbly tower
.
Is that a squirrel up on the left?
.
This seems to be the only way to cross one of the horse jumps now that the steps have rotted away.
.
We admire the camelids as usual - think they are alpacas?
.
At the top of 200 feet Barrow Hill, we get a clear view of the Malverns
.
And Gloucester Cathedral (highly zoomed)
.
Down we go
.
And spot an Old Spot - sorry!
.
And the amazing old tree still going strong
.
Along the North bank of the loop
.
Kathy notices some Peewits, or their more usual name Lapwings
.
Nearly back at the Ship Inn we see this wonderful show of Dahlias
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
