Eastington to Nympsfield

18 September 2007

Richard writes, "I thought I would take a few pictures at the Area Walk lead by Bernard on Tuesday. It looks as though Area Walks could do with a bit of publicity. There were nine people there, including the leader, eight from South Cots and one originally from North Cots but now from Stratford, so effectively out of the Area, I assume. I will leave it to you to decide whether the publicity is deserved."

Well yes, certainly. If you are a member of the Ramblers' Association you are entitled to walk with all 9 groups, including this series of Gloucestershire Area Mid Week day walks. See the Area News.

Looks a lovely walk - the others missed a treat! Mike
.
Our walk starts from the Canal at Eastington, just off of the M5
.
And we head out past Eastington Church where Bernard tells us some of its history
.
Before we cross the fields to the Sewage Treatment Plant at Stanley Downton
.
We next pause at the War Memorial in Leonard Stanley
.
Where again Bernard draws our attention to the church and its history - hope he is not planning to follow that sign
.
Then we head uphill stopping to offer advice to this chap on fly control
.
And pausing for breath before we tackle Gypsy Lane, once used for motor hill climbing
.
At the top we stop at the Nympsfield Long Barrow
.
Taking in the view across Cam Long Down
.
Returning after lunch in Nympsfield to the topograph
.
With more views over the Severn
.
We then head down into the vale
.
And back across the fields to Leonard Stanley
.
Our path then takes us to the Ocean on the Canal
.
Returning to the cars past Newtown Lock
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
