Daneway area

8 September 2007

..
Who is Di photographing at the Daneway?
.
Richard, our leader of course, who tries to convince everybody that he knows where he is going
.
Then we head off down the canal
.
Looking back as we head up towards Frampton Mansell
.
We cross the railway line
.
And walk past the church
.
Reflections in the mirror as we walk past a horse training arena
.
Double trouble!
.
We head off across the Coombes
.
And along the path
.
To Westley Farm - something seems to be amusing them
.
Richard tries to find out
.
We then descend into the valley watched by interested spectators - its easier with four legs they say
.
Taking to the road
.
Someone dropping in for elevenses?
.
As we approach the old Valley Inn
.
Garden looks good - the arches of Brunel's viaduct in the background
.
We stop for coffee by the canal
.
Some watch the camera - others can't be distracted from eating and talking
.
Then we head off up the hill through a carpet of scabias
.
Before dropping down to Bakers Mill
.

And back up the hill, Di taking the lead
.
Heading for Iles Green
.
Levelling off as we reach the hamlet
.
Where we spot this menacing contraption in the sky
.
Then head back through Siccaridge Woods to the Daneway for lunch
.
Duly refreshed it's uphill as we head over to Througham Slad
.
Where we encounter this three storied stile
.
Eventually stopping for a break outside Edgeworth Polo Club
.
We gallop across the polo fields
.
Where we see some of the action
.
Then down into the valley
.
And across the stream to Pinsbury Park
.
Where we look down the valley
.
And pause for a drink
.
To admire the stone walling round the main house
.
And to use some of the lower stonewalling as seats
.
Before walking across the valley and looking back at the main house
.
Where the zoom lens shows a children's party in progress - also evidenced by the amount of noise
.
We follow a well trodden path
.
Which brings us into Sapperton
.
An amazing display of energy at the end of a long walk
.
And its time for afternoon tea in everyone's world
.
As we pass through a herd of cows
.
And cross behind the Daneway Portal of the canal before returning to the cars
.
.
Photos and captions thanks to Richard and a few from Mike

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
