Cranham easy paced walk

5 September 2007

..
John turns on his GPS in the car park of the Black Horse at Cranham
.
And listens to Keith (2nd on right) outlining the route
.
We set off across the common
.
The Black Horse now behind us, and heading for the school
.
We leave the road and head up behind the school, admiring the lush growth
.
Including a fine mullein
.
And many other species
.
A peaceful spot
.
Many mallow-like flowers here but the leaves look like cranesbill - help needed
.
Heading down the lane we are intrigued to see an un-Cotswoldy roof
.
But on closer inspection discover it is a temporary erection over a new extension
..
We pause to admire the variety of plants
.
In the cottage garden
.
Keith has warned us about a narrow path with holes and drops, so
.
We proceed cautiously
.
Having survived, we emerge by this fine specimen
.

Over we go into
.
A field with two horses
.
Protection from horse flies?
.
Over the valley we get a misty view of Cranham Church
.
And the cottages near the school
.
Most of the rest of the walk is through Cranham Woods
.
A particular favourite, with its open feel
.
Keith explains the difficulties of navigating in this wood, as there are many, many paths
.
Storm damage
.
We have found a way out
.
John's GPS has confirmed where we are, working quite well in the well spaced trees
.
No rain this morning
.
This must be pretty unusual, a village post office in a scout hut
.
John sees a good reason to climb a steep hill - the pub!
.
We thank Keith for an excellent short walk
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
