Saul - two canals and a river

15 August 2007

There are 12 of us plus Kathy today and it starts raining about half way round and we get very wet - twice. Here are the rather damp photos.
.
We start our walk from Saul Church - Kathy smiling for the time being - wait till the rain starts
.
Heading off down an overgrown path
.
Through some open fields
.
Followed by stiles
.
And bridges
.
Before heading down to the banks of the Frome
.
And walking along to Saul Junction
.
Now that would make a good planter for the decking. Willow Trust boat in background
.
We cross the bridge - just about holding the weight
.
And examine Junction Bridge House more closely
.
Then walk along the old Stroudwater canal
.
Could be a spy boat
.
We spot the remains of an old lock as we walk along with the canal one side
.
And the river on the other - water has a fascination
.
Or it could be the helicopter on the horizon
.
So we stand on the bridge chatting and gazing at both
.
Then we head across country
.
In deteriorating weather
.
To Frampton Lakes
.

And coffee with Frampton Court in the background
.
And a family of geese on the lake
.
We walk round the park
.
Sixty years ago we would have leaped the jump instead of climbing the stile
.
Still finding some damp conditions
.
It's even too wet for sailing
.
We enter Frampton, pausing to admire a thatched cottage
.

Then head through the village, waterproofs now essential

Another interesting village house
.
And this one in need of some TLC
.
Our route now takes us along the Berkeley Canal towpath where boat names provide some amusement
.
Or interest for Gloucester Rugby supporters
.
Continuing along the towpath
.
To reach the other end of Saul Junction
.
Then along the road
.
To Saul Church, our starting point
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
