southcotswoldramblers.org.uk Cowcombe Hill and the Frome Valley 2 August 2007 A favourite walk (No 7 in More Favourite Walks) led by Richard in less than favourable weather - but hey, who cares, beautiful in any weather. .. |
| Interested
spectators watch us leave the lay-by on Cowcombe Hill and head towards
Westley Farm . |
| In
the pouring rain - producing a range of classic sartorial styles . |
| We
then head down into the Chalford Valley . |
| Through
an area of land which has been recently cleared . |
| With
countryside which looks lovely on a bright summer's day . |
| At
least we spot the odd splash of colour . |
| We
pass the Valley Inn - now a private house . |
| And
the canal side cottages . |
| As
we now head uphill . |
| Before
descending once more through the woods to the valley bottom . |
| Looking
back down the Frome Valley . |
| We
reach Baker's Mill . |
| Then
head along the canal, passing another former pub . |
| Some
signs of flooding . |
| We
head back along the other side of the valley, the rain having stopped . |
| And
look down on the swollen river Frome from the opposite bank . |
| We
stop look and listen as ordered . |
| Before
crossing the railway . |
| Then
pass the Crown Inn at Frampton Mansell, which looks very closed . |
| We
look down on the church . |
| And
the village cottages . |
| Another
view of the church . |
| Before
we head back across the top of the hill . |
| Looking
down into the Coombes . |
| Umbrellas
down and starting to dry out . |
| Arriving
back at the cars . |

| As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association. | |||
