Bisley cake walk

28 July 2007

It is with some relief that we gather in Bisley to improved weather news
.
Where Richard, today's leader, explains some alterations to the route and warns of possible wet feet following flooding
.
We head out through Bisley with Jim looking very determined
.
Walking past a well manicured lawn
.
Our back marker and back marker's back marker in fine form!
.
Bernard, looking pleased at having found a shortcut, briefly finds himself in front
.
And we reach our first water jump
.
Followed quickly by the second - very stylish Alex!
.
Then we look down Battlescombe valley
.
Before heading uphill, taking a brief pause at the top
.
At this point we take to a field to avoid a flooded footpath
.
No way through there
.
After a long uphill climb we stop for coffee and to sample Di's cakes, baked especially for the walk
.
She even persuades some to have second helpings
.
We then head over to Edgeworth and its church with the infamous carpet tapestry - see walk on the 25/11/2006
.
We look around this time without mishap
.
Before heading out through the lych-gate
.
Diverting around the top of the valley
.
Which is only slightly less waterlogged
.

Than the valley meadows which we avoided
.
Now we walk along the Frome valley
.
Looking down to Bull Banks
.
And past Valley Farm, now in the process of renovation
.
This fellow has got it made
.
We head up past some old friends
.
Who, as usual, follow us into the gateway
.
As we head towards Miserden
.
Where we gather for lunch
.
At the convenient shelter
.
Before adjourning for a swift half in the local
.
We then set off on the afternoon walk, Bernard briefly to the fore to clear the way
.
As we reach the top of the valley at Sudgrove we see Bisley church spire in the distance
.
Then we head down into the valley
.
Spread out
.
As we each make our own way down admiring the views
.
There then follows a steep climb
.
The leaders giving encouragement to the stragglers as they reach the top
.
A long walk follows across fields of wheat
.
 ge}
In bright sunshine
.
With views of colourful fields of linseed (we think)
.
Before we head down into the valley and our last water jump
.
Climbing back up we spot Sunday's breakfast
.
As we gather briefly at the top
.
Looking back towards Througham
.
{short description of image}
Then make the final push
.
To our final destination of Bisley and the church spire which has dominated our skyline for over an hour
.
.
Photos by both Diane and Richard, captions by just one of them, regulars will know who by the style!
.
top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
