Berkeley and two rivers

20 June 2007

Ray leads a 8.5 mile mid-week walk from Berkeley. A good pace is set (Bruno and Alex are present) and we are back in 3.5 hours!
.
Ray leads us out of Berkeley as we suspiciously eye the heron in the garden
.
We are soon forging our way through dense undergrowth
.
Before coming into fields along Berkeley Pill
.
We pass a pond where swans have made their home
.
As we reach the banks of the Severn
.
Where cows graze by the side of the power station
.
And flowers grow from the concrete of the Severn Way Path
.
Good job there is a fence between us and him
.
Our coffee break
.
My dog would like to live there
.
We nearly get mown down by a speeding tractor
.
But we reach the safety of a field of clover
.
As we head uphill
.
Negotiating more thick undergrowth
.
As Mike comes out on the other side avoiding stingers
.
And we look back across to the Power Station and the river Severn
.
Continuing uphill
.
Into the Deer Park
.
And lunch
.
Then we start deer spotting
.
Those look like horses
.
I can see you
.
We are in here
.
We head past the folly
.
See more deer
.
Some less fortunate deer
.
And an aptly named property
.
Before cross the Little River Avon and heading into the grounds of
.
Berkeley Castle
.
And heading back to the cars
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
