Summer round France Lynch

2 June 2007

A 5 mile walk to visiting Chalford Vale, Oakridge, Bournes Green
.
The programme said meet at the Kings Head - well here is the sign
.
The only walker in sight is this trainee rambler under instruction
.
But down the road in the pub car park Jacqui has gathered an enthusiastic crowd
.
Something to look forward to at the end of the walk
.
We leave France Lynch heading down into the valley
.
Crossing the stile recently renovated in memory of Frank Longhurst a long time member of South Cots Group and Stroud Club
.
We arrive at the canal at Chalford
.
And head along the towpath
.
Looking back at Bruno's house - now under offer we understand
.
What's in the bottle Brian?
.
We reach Bakers Mill
.
And have a brief stop
.
Before proceeding past this house - once a pub for the navvies building the canal
.
Then we move away from the canal
.
Up the hill
.
Pausing for our coffee break
.
Or a quiet snooze half way up
.
We then continue up the hill
.
Into Oakridge
.
A lovely display of lavender
.
Past another chocolate box cottage
.
Then through the garden of the Butchers Arms
.
Over the fields and down through Lilleyhorn to Bournes Green
.
Queuing to cross a stile
.
A brief break as we climb back up the other side
.
Then back along this path to The Kings Head
.

.
Thanks to Richard for the photos and captions
.
top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
