St Cyr's to The Edgemoor

19 May 2007

An all day walk.
.
As we meet near St Cyr's Church in Stonehouse Bernard outlines the walk ahead and tries to flog some walks books
.
Then we set off through Stonehouse and under the railway before
.
Crossing a stile
.
And climbing Doverow Hill - or Doverow Tump as some locals know it!
.
Pausing as we enter the woods at the top
.
Then out onto the other side into the sunshine
.
Where we pause to take in the views over Haresfield Beacon
.
And down to Stroud
.
Then we set off
.
Downhill to pick up the Cotswold Way
.
Passing into Standish Woods
. .
Where we pause for coffee
.
Continuing we pass these chaps - I think the cheeky one in front is already on the website
.
Then we walk through a field of buttercups
.
And some more woods
.
Before reaching Edge Common
.
And stopping for lunch at this familiar spot, the Edgemoor Inn
.
Then we head back up the Cotswold Way
.
Passing a rare butterfly orchid - must come back and pick a bunch for my wife sometime
.
As we reach the top of the hill
.
And head across to
.
Cripplegate car park
.
Then on to the topograph, where we encounter a strong SW breeze
.
Looking down over Stonehouse
.
In a sheltered spot we stop for a rest
.
And tea
.
Looking across to the Beacon
.
Then striding out downhill
. .
An awkward stile
.
Someones getting a new roof
.
As we enter a farmyard
.
We come under goose attack
.
And spot a useful warning sign on the way out
.
But we press on
.
Now in long grass
.
And undergrowth which requires the attention of Bernard's stick
.
Waiting for him to finish clearing another path
.
At Cotswold Green we pass these ponies
.
And then arrive in Stonehouse at the end of our walk
.
.
Photos and captions (some tongue in cheek we hope) thanks once again to Richard

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
