St Chloe and Windsoredge

2 May 2007

A walk with views from Woodchester devised by Heather and Mike

.
Would you allow this man to lead you to the ends of the earth?
.
Well 13 ramblers decided that they would as they gathered for Mike's walk at the Ram Inn in Woodchester
.
Passing this little fellow by the roadside as we set off
.
And old Church Mill - now residential accommodation
.
We cross the A46
.
And as we head uphill we look back at the convent
.
And over South Woodchester
.
Then continuing uphill
.
We walk along to St Chloe
.
Passing this intriguing sign - anyone seen a great green bush cricket?
Common in the Dordogne but not in the UK apparently - see photos here

.
We now look down at the Catholic Church
.
And pass many pretty cottages
. .
Once the water supply
.
A quick look across the valley
.
Then we check out Dunkirk Manor
.
Together with the court house just round the corner - once visited by Judge Jefferies
.
Before heading down to Dunkirk Mill
.
Leaving the mill behind we recross the A46
.
And head towards the Jovial Foresters, just taking delivery of what makes the foresters jovial
.
We look back down at Dunkirk Mill
.
Then up at a lurking predator
.
Before heading round the top of Nailsworth and spotting this example of time gone by
.
Our walk takes us along shady paths
.
To the top of the hill and the new Forest Green football ground
.
Coffee in a children's playground where there is a queue for the seesaw
.
Some of us just sit and think
.
And think and think
.
Before we head off down the hill
.
Looking across the lower part of the Woodchester Mansion valley
.
Excellent colour blending (I am told)
.
Then it's down into the valley
.
Pausing at the bottom for our Chairman to check out a retirement home
.
Looks ideal for you Brian
.
Then we look across the valley to Dunkirk Manor
.
And to Amberley
.
Much hotter and the water would be inviting
.
But we head on up to South Woodchester, taking advantage of this old seat
.
And climbing up through this unusual stile
.
Before heading back to the pub watched by one of the locals

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
