Haresfield to Edge

7 April 2007

A 10 mile Saturday walk. The weather is promising once again.
.
The school at Haresfield marks our meeting point
.
And Olivia, our leader today, takes us out through the village and past the millennium stone
.
Then it's across fields of golden rape
.
Through an arch of blackthorn blossom
.
To a rather derelict bridge
.
Where we nearly loose Bernard, our back marker, for the first time
.
We make our way over a stile
.
Stopping to say hello
.
Five old ladies (one of them suggested five South Cots Babes) sitting on a log
.
We press on towards Harescombe
.
The stiles in this area certainly call for some athleticism
.
We reach Harescombe church and stop for coffee
. .
Before entering the church
.
With its Easter Garden
.
And impressive interior
.
We then start to climb
.
Pausing to look back over the valley
.
And stopping for people to catch up
.
But as we cross Edge Common we look behind - no back marker
.
We press on but still no sign of Bernard
.
Till we reach the Edgemoor Inn where he waits patiently for us
.
We have lunch on the terrace overlooking Painswick
.
The photographer pretends to drink a pint of beer for the camera
.
And we settle for a convivial afternoon
.
But Olivia soon gets us moving
.
And Bernard is dragged out to continue his duties as back marker
.
As we head off up the Cotswold Way
.
We look back over Painswick
.
And to Painswick Beacon
.
Then head down the steps
.
And into the woods
.
We continue on the Cotswold Way - keeping the back marker in our sights
.
A garden starting to look quite colourful
.
As we head down the hill
.
With the valley spreading out before us
.
Before heading across the fields
.
Round a moto-cross track
.
With Haresfield gradually coming into sight
.
A fine show of pussy willow
.
Some sort of discussion going on here - by the look on John's face must be serious
.
But we are soon off again passing more blackthorn blossom
.
Another tricky stile
.
And across more fields
.
But the smiles on the faces indicate that the cars are in sight
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
