Oldbury on Severn

6 March 2007

Another beautifully sunny morning after lots of rain for Ray's morning walk
.
We set off along the banks
.
Of the River Severn
.
Past Thornbury Yacht Club
.
With Oldbury Power Station catching the sun in the distance
.
It takes two people to manage this gate!
.
We continue along the river with the bridges in front of us
.
And views across to the other side
.
A good view of the two bridges and Aust Cliff
.
This is Whale Wharf - where a whale was once beached - its skeleton now rumoured to be in Eastington
. .
The group shot - room for a few more!
.
As you can see from the trousers it was quite muddy
.
And it gets worse
.
But we soldier on
.
With views back over to the bridge
.
And still waterlogged in front
.
Then things improve
.
As we approach Littleton
.
Where the magnolias are in blossom
.
And the gardens are blooming
.
Lovely
.
A frustrated cyclist has left his bike on a Sustrans sign and taken up walking
.
Here three modes of transport come together
.
The story of my life
.
A popular garden ornament in this area
.
We cross a couple of fields
.
On the homeward leg
.
Spotting this on the way - rather unexpected in view of recent rain
.
And the going already soft to sticky
.
Then head towards St Arilds Church
.
Hunt jump, stile and comfy seat all in one
.
Wending our way through an orchard
.
Is this France?
.
Towards our goal - wonder what the speed limit was in St Arild's day?
.
Views fron the churchyard - a nice resting place
.
Ray prepares to address
.
His eager group
.
But having forgotten his glasses needs some help from Mike
.
One more look at the view before we have
.
A quick look in the church
.
The doorway with St Arild - over the top, not coming out
.
Another view of the church in the mid day sun
.
And we walk past our final objective
.

Before crossing this stream
.
And reaching the cars
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
