Brimpsfield and Syde

3 March 2007

A beautifully sunny morning after lots of rain
.
Leaders Dave and Maurice inspect their troops at Brimpsfield Village Hall car park
.
The weather encourages a good turnout for a 7 mile walk
.
And we set off down the road
.
Along the drive to
.
The site of Brimpsfield Castle - not one stone left
.
Then off up the slope
.
Before heading down through the woods
.
The sunlight shining through the trees
. .
Then out over a stile
.
And up the hill
.
Tracey checks here camera as we
.
Pass an imposing residence, Brimpsfield Park
.
And over the stream
.
Picking up a forest trail
.
A little damp in places
.
Do we need a back marker for our back marker?
.
You can cross here if you have got wellies
.
Or here with boots
.
Even the stile is under water
.
Joe makes it look easy
.
A short diversion to Syde Church
.
We decide whether to have a look inside
.
At its Norman archway
.
And Victorian gas lamps - and taps
.
Or a look around the churchyard
.
Allen gets down to it
.
Before a coffee/banana stop
.
Then we set off again
.
Down the hill
.
And up the hill
.
To Caudle Green
.
With its old cottages
.
Then into Miserden Park
.
Through the woods
.
Tracey leads her group
.
To our lunch break
.
And a chance for a quick nap - shall we wake him up?
.
The afternoon begins in mud
.
And continues in mud
.
Alas poor rambler...........
.
We stop to check that we are all still here
.
Before heading back towards Brimpsfield
.
A brief stop at a polo yard and a chance for another sit down
.
Then across a last field
.
To the village
.
And the car park where Maurice explains where we have been
.
With the aid of his map
.
Photographed and described by Richard, Bernard and Mike
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
