southcotswoldramblers.org.uk Ham, the Little Avon and the Deer Park 10 February 2007 .. |
| When
the programme stipulates a meet in a pub car park anticipation of lunch
soon lifts the gloom . |
| Caused
by the light rain and grey skies as we set off up the Little Avon . |
| Noting
carefully the position of a lifeboat in case of flooding . |
| And
treading carefully through the mud . |
| The
river winding away into the distance . |
| Looking
back there is another party of ramblers and a view of Berkeley Castle . |
| As
we wait for Mike who is making a bit of a meal of this stile . |
| Then
we cross the fields . |
| With
Dave, our joint leader, setting a brisk pace from behind, with Norman . |
| The
sun comes out as we reach Stone Church . |
| Where
we stop for coffee . |
| Maurice,
our other joint leader looking deep in thought . |
| Perhaps
looking at the remains of recent snowfalls . |
| Or
the early flowering celandines . |
| Or
perhaps trying to stare out this curious beast . |
| We
then cross more fields . |
| Through
more mud . |
| A
chance for a chat . |
| As
we head towards the Deer Park . |
| The
view looking along the Deer Park . |
| And
back across to the Cotswolds . |
| Then
entering the Deer Park . |
| Where
we see deer . |
| And
more deer . |
| We
pass the folly on the hill . |
| And
look across the Severn to the Forest of Dean with its recent heavy
snowfall . |
| A
herd of fallow deer cross our path . |
| Before
we head back down the hill to the Salutation for lunch . |

| And
perhaps a glass of beer brewed at the pub . |

| As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association. | |||
