Painswick and Cranham

19 December 2006

Our 6 mile mid week morning walk is entitled "Painswick Perambulation"
.
We start from the aptly named "Walkers Car Park" where Patrick outlines the walk
.
And head down the outskirts of Painswick, carefully crossing the busy A46
.
Heading down into the valley across a stile
.
We pass a house nearing the end of some extensive refurbishment
.
Before heading uphill
.
More evidence of recent rainfall
.
Spotted on a stable door - itself in need of some conservation
.
An imposing property
.
Everytime we pass this property we think of a famous balcony scene
.
It certainly has an idyllic setting
.
Bill conscientiously performing the duties of back marker
.
We view the now forbidden footpath through Suttons Mill (deleted after a recent public enquiry)
.
Then look across the valley to Saltridge Wood
.
Mike exercises his right to take the public footpath through the garden of Mann's Court while the rest of us take a suggested diversion
.
And we all clamber out over an old stone stile
.
Then Patrick, Jim and Mike stop to examine the map
.
And finally stop for coffee
.
Before heading up the valley towards Cranham passing Gladys' Leap
.
Read all about it - kindly reproduced from the GCC publication "Grass Routes" 2004 (page 11)
.
On the path we spot some lingering flowers
.
As we look down into the valley
.
Jim is trying to work out how we find our way from here
.
And we head down into Cranham Village
.
Then out into Buckholt Wood
.
A glimpse down into the valley towards Prinknash
.
Before we stop to read an English Nature information board
.
And head round the golf course to the cars
.
Thanks to Richard for the photos and captions.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
