Boxwell and Ozleworth

10 December 2006

We have brightened the pictures up a bit but can't hide that it was a particularly miserable day weatherwise.
However the company on Brian's 9 mile day walk couldn't be faulted.
.
We set off from the A46 towards Boxwell
.
What is over the wall?
.
A view of Boxwell Court
.
Ready to go again
.
Down into the valley
.
On a damp and muddy path
.
To a very full looking lake
.
Into which our path disappears - but Mike insists that there is a way through
.
And our leader, Brian, reluctantly follows with the rest of his apprehensive band in tow
.
On drier ground we pause to look across the lake to Boxwell Court on the hill opposite
.
Before continuing on along the valley
.
An exceedingly damp valley!
.
Then passing another lake
.
We pause to examine the outlet pipe of a hydraulic ram
.
And also the gruesome remains of some predator's dinner - any ideas?
.
The view across the valley as we head towards Lasborough
.
Passing Lasborough Park Mansion
.
Then looking across to Lasborough Manor and Church
.
A peaceful pastoral scene although somewhat grey
.
A disused church at Newington Bagpath
.
And we head down the valley towards Ozleworth
.
Passing the remains of an old tree, the victim of recent high winds
.
Then following the swollen stream
.
Brian tells us the right of way goes through the stream - ignoring two perfectly serviceable bridges
.
Then we head up the hill towards Ozleworth Park
.
The stables through which the right of way once went
.
But we circle round to the church porch for lunch
.
Which proves a very welcome respite from the weather - and the group just fits
.
{short description of image}
Spookily the lights come on when we leave the church
.
After which we pass the mansion in Ozleworth Park
.
Heading back to Ozleworth Bottom
.
Then up the hill watched by some threatening spectators
.
And just before rejoining our outward path back to the cars, we sing happy birthday to Richard, 21 again! He's the one in red with the mini-cloud hovering above him!
.
Thanks once again for the great photos in the circumstances from Richard and Bernard

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
