The Sodburys

7 December 2006

With another weather forecast to strike fear into the heart of all but the most courageous rambler nine of us turned up for Anne's walk from Chipping Sodbury. In the end the weather was not too bad with some sunshine to go with the odd squally shower.
.
Another car park another walk - but from Chipping Sodbury
.
We set off in bright sunshine, encountering a bewildering array of footpath signs
.
Across the fields following the Monarchs Way
.
At times the going got quite heavy - often under water
.
But Anne our leader showed us the way
.
Which took us past Little Sodbury Church
.
And along the bottom of the hill with views out over the Severn Vale
.
The skies still blue but the wind blustery
.
Manoeuvring through a kissing gate
.
To Old Sodbury Church
.
And another fun guy
.
The view from the churchyard
.
A window in the church porch
.
And underneath the window a reminder that there are only 18 shopping days to Christmas
.
The Old Sodbury Millennium Stone
.
Downhill
.
Looking back over Little Sodbury, the Brunel Tunnel air shaft on the horizon
.
Now on the Frome Valley walkway
.
And a pause to talk to some equine friends
.
A tricky stile - involving deep water and a pole to walk over
.
Then across some sticky fields in gathering storm clouds
.
Before returning to Chipping Sodbury, the Church looming in front of us
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
