Haresfield Beacon and Randwick

3 December 2006

Karen and Tony lead us on another "interesting" weather day
.
We set off towards Haresfield Beacon with the sky promising a very soggy walk
.
Reaching the trig point where Karen, our leader, points to where the rain is coming from
.
And as we pass the Cromwell Stone she reminds us of its history
.
Dogs come to investigate us
.
One dog seems to like us
.
We continue walking just below the escarpment
.
With views over the valley
.
And a distant farmhouse
.
With rolling meadows
.
On top of the hill we climb a stile
.
Tony is the last over the stile near Bird in Hand
.
We pass a herd of ramblers from South America
.
A torrential storm forces us into our cars for lunch following which we head for the topograph
.
Haven't we been here before? Yes, this morning
.
Before heading through a sea of mud
.
And downhill
.
Towards Standish Estate
.
Richard, our regular photographer, trying to avoid being photographed by Bernard
.
Tony finds something amusing
.
Fortunately he stayed indoors. Weather probably too bad.
.
In this area farms have coats of arms over their barns
.
A striking large shed with roof held by unusual brick pillars
.
We pass a quaint cottage
.
Group Photo - Bernard taking photo and making sure they cannot move off before he does
.
George at top of very steep track, making sure Tony and Bernard (taking photo) get to the top
.
We eventually cross over the hill to Randwick
.
Before a steep climb and back across the top to our cars
.
Back at the car park at last after hail, torrential rain and strong winds
.
Pictures (in spite of all adversity) and captions from Richard and Bernard (well done, first go with new camera!)

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
