Slad Valley and Frith Wood
Easy paced walk and talk

29 November 2006

Keith designed this walk "For those wanting a steepish hilly walk but preferring to do it very slowly". This is one of our experimental walks to encourage walkers who find it difficult to walk as fast as they used to, but it also enables others to come out for a chat. Why not try one of these walks soon?
Off we set from from Bulls Cross down the drive into the Slad Valley
.
A heavy shower an hour before we start has discouraged some, but a group of six have a delightful dry walk!
.
Bill and Tony descend past Trillgate Farm
.
And towards the infant Slad Brook
.
A backward glance up to Trillgate
.
Nearly December, and the holly and
.
The ivy - both are looking good
.
What do they mean?
.
Quite a thriving concern
.
An elegant mansion
.
These three seem happy with their lot
.
A clear view of the pond
.
And the residents
.
A good idea in the British weather?
.
Anything for us?
.
Sheep may safely graze
.
Coffee stop near the War Memorial
.
And then the sun appears
.
A pleasant ascent towards Wick Street
.
Past signs of an old quarry
.
Past more holly
.
And along an awkward section of footpath near to barbed wire - it really needs levelling
.
And over the wall we notice a new development, a bridle path (permissive?) which links uo to the official route in Frith Wood
.
Downhill all the way
.
Catching a view of Painswick
.
Emerging back onto the road at Bulls Cross
.
With its famous mounting block
.
Pictures and captions from Mike. All walkers, we encourage you to try out an easy paced walk soon - plenty of chances to look at the view and have a good old chat.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
