Autumn leaves around Painswick

18 November 2006

.
All wrapped up and ready to go on a bright morning from the Walkers Car Park at Painswick
.
We head off on the Cotswold Way north across the golf course
.
Which way are they going?
.
We wait to let them make their next shots before our leader David (2nd on left) leads the 18 walkers off again
.
Alongside the fairway
.
In lovely Autumn sunshine
.
We emerge onto the A46 and cross to head on through woods towards Cranham
.
A coffee stop in a speckled spot
.
And then down we go to Cranham village
.
Where we come across a black horse (well dark brown) outside The Black Horse!
.
Then off across Cranham Common
.
Up the hill
.
Towards the summit
.
Horse riders are enjoying the morning too
.
A zoom shot backwards to Painswick Beacon
.
We climb very steeply up towards Overtown, blinded by the brilliant sunshine
.
Cranham Woods behind us shows its last colours
.
The clouds gather
.
And a promised shower ensues
.
As we walk through Saltridge Common Wood
.

It soon gives over and passing through Lord's and Lady's Wood we emerge on to Sheepscombe Common for our picnic lunch
.
With views over Sheepscombe village
.
And a distant view to Painswick
.
Autumn colours are nearly over
.
A fuzzy haze of trees
.
Nearly Winter
.
Off we head
.
Steeply down
.
Through the beechwoods
.
Along the edge
.
To emerge over or under a nasty sloping half log stile. Others watch the fun!
.

We emerge by Trench Hill
.
Turning right
.
Past pastures green
.
It starts to shower again, and we see a rainbow
.
In the glorious sunshine
.
We love to go a wandering!
.
Back up towards the golf course
.
Autumn - an untidy time
.
You can keep on and on!
.
Everyone looks happy as we return after our 7.5 miles at 2.10 pm

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
