Luckington and the infant River Avon

8 November 2006

Are we downhearted at the damp weather? Certainly not, we'll get some fresh air and good company!
.
John checks that we are all coming on this rather soggy morning
.
As we leave Luckington we are reminded that we are in horse country
.
We follow the path across fields on a damp and gloomy day
.
Pausing to examine a derelict bridge over what was once a stream - before global warming
.
An impressive gateway - wonder where it leads
.
An even more impressive wall as we approach Sopworth church
.
The village of Sopworth
.
Typical Badminton countryside
.
Our numbers increase? No we cross paths with a Cotswold Wardens walk
.
We pause to look at the infant River Avon
.
Which we can just see in the valley
.
But which widens as we approach Sherston
.
And have a closer look at an old clapper bridge
.
Some advice to ramblers on how to carry walking poles
.
A group photo. John, our leader, second left, glad to have got us this far in one piece
.
Heading back into Luckington - volunteers required to test the accuracy of the sign
.
Still a miserable day as we walk through the village
.
Passing the church
.
Reaching our destination, The Old Royal Ship. Make a note of that John
.

Photos and captions nearly all from Richard.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
