Wotton-under-Edge

12 October 2006

Anne's midweek walk from Wotton is well attended
. It is based on a walk from our new book, see pictures.
.
Here she outlines the walk in the crowded carpark, before setting off down the High Street and round the corner
.
To the Perry and Dawes Almshouses
.
Where we are welcome
.
To see the courtyard around which are the cottages and the chapel
.
We set off up the Cotswold Way
.
Then start to climb up through Coombe, pausing at a 1902 bench in remarkable condition
.
Now we ascend the strip lynchets
.
Smiling at the moment
.
Half way up with improving views
.
After walking through the woods we emerge onto Wotton Hill with its clump of trees
.
The plaque on the fence around the trees that were planted to commemorate Waterloo!
.
Ponies now live here
.
No you can't come on the walk
.
Time for elevenses
.
A view of the Rennishaw building, an old Textile mill, near Kingswood
.
And the developing home of its managing director at Swinhay (see earlier pictures)
.
We return via the crooked house (Park Mill Farm, nr Kingswood) with its rather unusual windows
.
And the outskirts of Kingswood village
.
It's uphill back to the centre of Wotton - another great walk.
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
