southcotswoldramblers.org.uk Cowley and Stockwell 19 September 2006 Slightly north of our area, we meet on a lovely morning for a walk led by Patrick and Angela . |
|
| We meet at
the Guides Headquarters at Cowley, where Roger, the Warden, tells us
something about the facilities . |
||
| Then we set
off up the road . |
||
| Passing
the area where Guides learn the finer points of archery . |
||
| And how to
hang car tyres from a clothes line . |
||
| We then head
up through the woods . |
||
| Passing a
small pond . |
||
| And up to
the top of the hill . |
||
| Then we walk
along the top . |
||
| Passing this
interesting sign which prompts some discussion . |

| Before
spotting the correct answer on the post itself . |
||
| Across the
fields are some unusual land slips . |
||
| We stop for
coffee - seating provided courtesy of a local farmer . |
||
| We spot a
Cotswold craftsman at work. What is he building? It's a rather luxurious
dog kennel. . |
||
| We continue
along the top of the Cotswolds . |
||
| Encouraged
by Patrick our leader . |
||
| We have a
quick look in the church . |
||
| Eventually
heading down the valley . |
||
| In bright
sunshine . |
||
| With more
hidden Cotswold valleys . |
||
| And rolling
uplands with another of those signs . |
||
| Until we
head down towards Cowley with Laila, a visitor from Finland, in the lead . |

| Still well
maintained . |
||
| We pass the
imposing Cowley Manor - now a rather smart hotel . |

| As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association. |
