Miserden mystery tour revealed

16 September 2006

Richard writes, "We had thirteen walkers so being superstitious I offered to drop out but they seemed to think they needed a leader. You will probably have noticed that this area is becoming quite popular for walks and this is the fifth time I have done a similar walk this summer. However this time I went in the opposite direction and everybody thought it was a new walk Could be they were too busy talking."
We leave Miserden and head down into the Park
.
Towards the lake, shrouded in mist
.
Then up the hill again pausing to rest at the top
.
Before heading across the fields to Winstone
.
Then over a stile
.
And down the valley, watched by some curious spectators
.
To Duntisbourne Abbots
.
Where we stop for coffee
.
See the unusual rotary gate in the lych gateof the church
.
And make friends with the only visible inhabitant
.
We then head into Duntisbourne Leer via the Long Ford, once a cart wash
.
And over the hill
.
And down the valley
.
To Duntisbourne Rous and lunch in the churchyard of the old Saxon church
.
With views over some magnificent willow trees
.
We have a quick look in the church
.
Where our group organist treats us to an impromptu recital
.
Then it's cross country - yes, that is a daddy long legs in the top right hand corner
.
Down through the woods
.
Past an old clapper bridge
.
And up past Edgeworth House
.
And church before heading out of the villlage
.
Where we spot some interesting vegetation and Alex tells us she is looking for fun guys
.
We walk down into
.
The Upper Frome Valley
.
With its grassy meadows
.
Over a stream with some tricky stepping stones
.
Before climbing back up the hill
.
And into Miserden
.
With another lych-gate
.
And church
.

Heading back to the cars passing flags put out by the locals to celebrate our return
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
