Hidden Valleys on the edge of the Cotswolds

7 September 2006

We meet at Fern Farm, near Marshfield, courtesy of Enid, our leader.
Enid starts by showing us her pony.
.
Before heading off down our first hidden valley, over private farmland - thanks to Enid
.
A view back up the valley
.
We pass a cross country jump
.
Then head on up the valley
.
And down a path through woods
.
A blackberry stop
.
We see Slaughterford across the valley
.
But stop by a quiet stream
.
For a break
.
Then we cross the stream
.
Pausing for a game of Pooh sticks
.
Then down into Slaughterford
.
With its church
.
Down another tree lined road
.
Into Ford, after anxiously checking our watches to ensure that our lunch venue is open
.
One of the penalities of being the photographer's wife - the sign needed some human interest
.
We leave Ford
.
Taking the byeways round Castle Coombe
.
Into another hidden valley
.
With wild flowers
.
Looking up the valley
.
We pass an unusual cattle grid
.
Then watch as a west country cowboy shows how to round up cattle without using a horse
.
We then reach North Wraxall, passing the church
.
And pausing to check out the new boots
.
We spot an imposing gateway
.
Then head back across the fields
.
For tea at Enid's
.
And finally a look around her garden.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
