Horsley and Ruskin Mill

24 August 2006

.
A lovely sunny morning and walkers queue up for John's walk
.
John is nearly ready now
.
We head up the hill out of Horsley in pleasant walking weather
.
Passing some colourful vegetation
.
Then over fields to the top of the hill. Is that a big bird in the top left hand corner?
.
The peace of the countryside is disturbed by quite a racket ahead
.
Our back markers pass a dead tree
.
And we look down the valley towards Newmarket
.
Our big bird turns out to be a rather noisy Electricity Board helicopter
.
With a cameraman leaning out of the doorway checking the cables for faults
.
Have you a head for heights?
.
We head down the valley
.
Passing a quieter helicopter
.
And with Newmarket and the outskirts of Nailsworth in sight
.
We stop for coffee
.
Before climbing round Nailsworth
.
And looking down on Ruskin Mill
.
We pause after crossing a busy road with our leader, John, anxiously checking numbers
.
Then walk up the valley in the grounds of Ruskin Mill
.
Over the bridge
.
Past a magnificent sculpture of an eagle
.
With more flowers
.
Water features
.
Ponds
.
And more ponds
.
Taking a nap
.
After passing an interesting garden we head back up into Horsley
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
