| We meet in
the car park in Painswick where our leader, Olivia, shows how to stand
completely still looking at the ground . |
| Then she
leads us off down the hill and along the bottom of Painswick . |
| Passing a
garden with a large water feature . |
| And another . |
| Crossing
peaceful meadows . |
| Where we are
joined by a prospective new member . |
| Who gives up
as we head uphill and the going gets tough . |
| "If we
jump over this fence and then race over to ... . |
| ... that
church in the distance we could become steeple chasers" . |
| We pass the
site of a Quaker burial ground . |
| Then look
back for more views over Painswick . |
| Before
heading down the valley and into Sheepscombe ,. |
| Where we
stop for a break, some admiring the views down the valley, others
looking at wedding photos . |
| As we move
off we have more views over the valley . |
| Before the
path passes through a private garden . |
| And we head
down into the Painswick Valley again . |
| Where we
negotiate a hazardous water crossing . |
| Those
successfully across stopping in the hope of watching someone fall in . |
| We pass the
ruins of an old mill, Olivers . |
| Then head
off along the Painswick Stream . |
| Gradually
moving up the side of the valley |
| Stopping to
look back over Saltridge Hill . |
| "Nuff
said!" |
| And into
Painswick with a spot of blackberry picking - a good crop this year . |
| Before
finally reaching the famous church with its yew trees . |

| As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association. |
