Chalford evening stroll -

9 August 2006

Richard and John send some pictures taken on Jacky's evening walk around Chalford. It was a very pleasant and quite strenuous walk and there were about 16 in attendance.
.
From the Sports and Social Club our walk takes us round the lanes which skirt the village of Chalford
.
Across fields
.
Descending Rack Hill
.
And then down Jacobs Ladder, used by generations of villagers to move between Chalford and Chalford Hill
.
At the bottom we spot this individual in a stone wall
.
We pause to look out over the valley
.
Halfway through we stop at the New Red Lion for quick half
.
And a chat
.
Refreshed we gather for the climb back up the hill
.
With views over the valley
.
As we edge our way back up
.
And along the valley
.
Passing a magnificent tree in Manse Cottage
.
Spotting one of Brunel's Viaducts peeping out from behind the trees
.
Still climbing but with sheep for company
.
Very clean sheep!
.
Then out into the evening sunlight
.
Before encountering a slight obstruction in the woods
.
Reaching the top of the hill we look back over Westley Farm
.
Soon reaching our final destination
.
And a chance to sit and chat with leader Jacky
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
