Gossington and Purton -

22 July 2006

Richard writes, "Herewith pictures of Gossington Walk. Only four on parade increased briefly to five along the canal, but it was a very hot day."
.
As we leave the layby on Gossington Bridge our intrepid leader, Bernard, cautiously approaches the first stile, stick at the ready.
.
A fig tree
.
We stride out down a country lane
.
We spot a flower. Ah!!!
.
Reaching the Sharpness Canal at Patch Bridge
.
Where we spot an interesting sculpture
.
And an elegant swan
.
Then we walk along the towpath - looks like they take in washing
.
Dont think this is the weather for icebergs
.
And on to Purton - and a typical canal side building
.
Where we stop for lunch, watched by a proud mother and her growing offspring
.
Then up the hill with views back over Purton and the Severn
.
Across fields of corn
.
And fields of wheat
.
And fields of fields
.
"I'll take the short one in the front with the stick. You take the rest!"
.
Over dubious bridges
.
And doubtful stiles
.
Back to the safety of the A38 and the cars.
.
John sends 3 pictures:
John reports, "Although I didn't actually go on the walk (chickened out too hot) I did come across them whilst strolling round the canal, so I took the odd photo! Here are the few who braved the heat!"
The Bristol Rover Canal Boat - wonder if there is a Bristol City around somewhere?
.

Old World War II Pill Box 60 odd years ago this would have been bristling with machine guns!

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
