Ten of us survived the incessant heat of the English summer on Saturday and were also treated to a very informative walk by Tim
.
We set off from our road side car park near Coates in bright morning sunshine
.
Striding out towards Cirencester
.
Passing the Royal Agricultural College
.
And one of Brunel's bridges over an abandoned railway line
.
On which we stop for coffee
.
Our first sight of the Thames at Ewen
.
Time to pose in our shorts - summer is here
.
Our leader, Tim, points out the identification marks on the railway bridge - in miles and chains from Paddington
.
A busy Kemble station
.

And a pub becomes not so busy as we take our leave
.
Walking along the infant Thames
.
Only to find another source at Lyd spring
.
Tim gives us some more background information on the walk
.
And we finally stop at the designated source of the Thames
.
Another spectacular Brunel bridge, over the canal, famous for its skewed brickwork
.
One of the famous canal roundhouses - now derelict
.
We head under a bridge
.
Into Kings Reach
.
And the tunnel portal at the end, before heading back to the cars
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
