Birdlip and Leckhampton Hill -

20 May 2006

Ron is our leader for a 9 miler from Barrow Wake, near Birdlip - a good turn out considering the weather forecast. Will summer never come?
We gather in the car park at Barrow Wake and head off for the first obstacle.
The busy A417 where some are slower than others
.
Then its up through woods of wild garlic
.
Where Ron leads us into the spring sunshine
.

Down into the valley
.
And a quick stop for coffee
.
Before striding off across the top of the hill
.
Towards a picturesque garden
.
And into Coberley
.
Where we learn about the church and its connections with Dick Whittington
.
See the famous memorial to a horse
.
Admire the stained glass windows
.
And then continue on our way
.
Past fields of rape
.
Then it starts raining
.
We trudge up to Leckhampton Hill
.
And stop at the Devils Chimney
.
Then up the road
.
To Crickley Park
.
With views into the Severn Valley on a clear day
.
A chance to look at the map
.
Then the highlight of the day
.
For some
.
As we relax at the information centre
.
Before heading back to the cars past the Air Balloon
.
With its enticing sign
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
