Around Painswick -

23 March 2006

Fourteen of us endured some very cold but sunny weather to circle around Painswick.

We meet in the Ramblers Car Park near the Roccoco Gardens at Painswick House
Where Bernard, our leader, briefs us on the walk
Giving good value here!
Even the birds find it interesting!
Setting off we pass in front of Painswick House
Another view of the house
Then down the valley
And over a stile
Through an area of scrub
And climb back up the hill
A pause at the top before breaking the ice on our water and taking our morning break
With views over Painswick
And to Painswick Beacon
The snowdrops are good this year
Bernard stops to check our route
We pass Washbrook Mill
Then down to a sluice and bridge
Over the Painswick Stream
Views of Painswick looking up from the other side
Then past another old mill
Before a final stop for Bernard to impart more information about the area - was this really a red light district in the 50's?

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
