southcotswoldramblers.org.uk Chalford to Battlescombe - 4 March 2006 Richard, our photographer for the day says, "I am afraid that the weather was rather good so I went a bit mad." |
|
| We set off behind Bruno from our meeting place at his house ... | ||
| ... through sun kissed woods, bathed in the warm glow of Spring's awakening light | ||
| The nearest we get to a pub! | ||
| Before taking a bearing on Bisley Church Spire and while skirting the village ... | ||
| ... we pass a Gents, which Bruno assures us has got hot and cold running water - but there are no takers | ||
| And some redundant agricultural machinery | ||
| Stopping for lunch ... | ||
| ... before fording a stream ... | ||
| ... and looking down into Battlescombe | ||
| A stile at the top of the hill | ||
| Before going down to Througham ... | ||
| ... where the streams are frozen | ||
| Climbing a steep bank ... | ||
| ... with views back up the valley | ||
| A pause for breath in the sunshine ... | ||
| ... and another steep climb ... (Bruno our leader) | ||
| With more valley views | ||
| Gates don't only provide access | ||
| No bird flu here | ||
| We stop for tea ... | ||
| ... and another rest at Whitehall Bridge before ... | ||
| ... heading back along the canal where the catkins are plentiful this year ... | ||
| ... and the ducks walk on water! | ||
| Photos and captions thanks to Richard | ||
| As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association. |
