Nympsfield and Owlpen - 28 September 2005
Olivia leads us on an excellent strenuous midweek walk of nearly 7 miles. Here we set off from outside the Rose and Crown at Nympsfield, where some of us later plan to return for lunch.
Off we go down the valley towards Nailsworth - very dry underfoot this year.
We pass under the shadow of the solitary wind turbine at Tinkley Farm.
Downhill now through very steep woods, so steep the cameraman fotgets to take any photos!
Up on the other side of the valley he spots this very unusual weathervane outside Lower Lutheridge Farm.
A rest for recuperation and a chat.
Some pigs try to make friends ...
... but Olivia presses on.
Autumn tints are starting to show.
Ray and Molly take the opportunity of an impromtu resting post.
We pause to look at the outside of Owlpen Church, and speculate on the reason for the door halfway up the tower - any ideas?
We join the lane and get our first view of Uley Bury on the skyline.
A closer view with Uley Church in full view and the Bury up above,
Cows are starting to lie down - Olivia says rain is forecast for 2:00.
An amazing bracket fungus - looks like two old tractor seats!
Just before the end we spot a siamese cat, probably hunting in the meadow. He probably wonders what this crowd of people have been up to. We make it to the pub, and the rain starts 30 minutes later!
