Bisley and Oakridge -
6 August 2005
An excellent walk from Bisley to Bournes Green, Oakridge and back to the exceptional Bear Inn Pub. The weather is perfect and the Cotswold scenery is at its best and the pub ......
We leave the Bear Inn car park led by Jacqui.
We are soon making our way through corn fields.
The village gardens Jacqui takes us past are at their summer best.
The picturesque houses of Bisley village.
Bears seem to be important to Bisley with a Bear Inn and A Bear House - even Winnie The Pooh waves at us as we walk through the village!
.The end is in sight.
The Bear Inn - been a Pub since 1766 and was at one time a Manor Court and a pub, must be the only place that you could get fined for being drunk and disorderly without having to stop drinking! Legend has it that there is a secret passageway that runs from the Bear Inn cellars to Lypiatt Park, there is also a deep well and possibly a Priest Hole in the fireplace - the food isn't bad either.
Thank you to John for photos and text
