A lovely
mild, breezy winter's morning and no fewer than 24 walkers turn up
for their fix of the beautiful Gloucestershire
countryside, including several photographers! |
A couple of
dips and up again to the plateau for today 5.5 mile walk and total
height ascended is 866 feet. |
A view
through the churchyard at Sapperton to the Daneway Inn, the white
building in the valley. |

A bright
patch of sunlight as we descend to the Daneway Valley..... |
.... and
later climb up again from Daneway House .... |
... up and
up to the plateau at the top. |
Here we head
towards Tunley Cottage, walking through very tame wintering polo ponies. |
Three in a
row - are you leaving us so soon? |
Caroline
makes a friend ... |
... and so
does Janis. |
On half a
mile and we pass the pretty stables at Tunley Farm. |
Wide views
from the diverted path below Bywells. |
A
magnificent three step stile arrangement. |
Up we go to
the top again. |
Here we
shelter from the wind by a disused sileage clamp as we have our
elevenses. |
We cross the
top near Edgeworth Polo Club and then descend towards Pinbury Park. |
The ford is
too deep today through the infant river Frome, so we use the nearby
footbridge. |
Up we climb
to pass Pinbury Park with its amazing position. |
The sun
shines magnificently. |

A lingering
last look at the outstanding position of the house. |
We head back
towards Sapperton. |
All morning
we have been admiring the emerging snowdrops and winter aconites.
