The forecast
was for a gloomy day, but we were blessed with glorious winter sun. |
We set off
from Dursley down Long Street and head towards Upper Cam. |
Karen leads
us on a level stretch. |
Patrick
spots an old railway footbridge at Upper Cam. |
We start on
our climb up to Stinchcombe Hill... |
... and
pretty steep it is too. |
Half way up,
Karen fills us in on the history of access to the hill and surrounding
woods. |
We listen
attentively, and Tony is ready to continue back-marking. |
When we
reach the top there is a most amazing view over the vale, rather
reminiscent of a Turner painting. |
Views for
some, bananas for others! |
We gather
round the Sir Stanley Tubbs memorial seat for a group photo, funny I
have never seen anyone sit on that seat, especially in Winter! |
And Karen is
off again, skirting the edge of the hill. |
Two of the
walkers have a lot to catch up on. |
Meanwhile,
Karen streaks onwards. Notice the golfers on the skyline. |
A look back
at where we have been. |
Into the
winter sun, which is quite strong now... |
... and
casts long shadows as we descend to Dursley... |
... for our
walk of two halves. |
