Dursley and Stinchcombe Hill -
11 December 2004
The forecast was for a gloomy day, but we were blessed with glorious winter sun.
We set off from Dursley down Long Street and head towards Upper Cam.
Karen leads us on a level stretch.
Patrick spots an old railway footbridge at Upper Cam.
We start on our climb up to Stinchcombe Hill...
... and pretty steep it is too.
Half way up, Karen fills us in on the history of access to the hill and surrounding woods.
We listen attentively, and Tony is ready to continue back-marking.
When we reach the top there is a most amazing view over the vale, rather reminiscent of a Turner painting.
Views for some, bananas for others!
We gather round the Sir Stanley Tubbs memorial seat for a group photo, funny I have never seen anyone sit on that seat, especially in Winter!
And Karen is off again, skirting the edge of the hill.
Two of the walkers have a lot to catch up on.
Meanwhile, Karen streaks onwards. Notice the golfers on the skyline.
A look back at where we have been.
Into the winter sun, which is quite strong now...
... and casts long shadows as we descend to Dursley...
... for our walk of two halves.
