Tim gave his
mid-week walk an intriguing title - "Back to the Jurassic (but no
monsters!)". |
Tim explains
that the Jurassic refers to the limestone geology of the area. Having
lived in the area for most of his life, he could tell us many an
interesting snippet. For instance the covered reservoir on the Common
(behind him) used to be an open reservoir many years ago. |
We descend
off the common through the village of Amberley ... |
... and
along interesting pathways ... |
... with
gardens still showing some colour. |
We keep
obtaining views of Woodchester, and up on the skyline, Selsley Common. |
We pass a
particularly striking garden. |
Woodchester
Church spire and the north part of the village. |
A delightful
quiet road under Rodborough Common. |
Derek takes
a couple of photos of some of us as we survey the view. Wonder what Alex
has seen - surely not a Jurassic monster?! |
Most of us
do not seem too worried! |
Off we go
after our drink stop up to the top ... |
... passing
a colourful larch plantation ... |
... to see
even wider views over Stroud to Doverow Hill and the Forest of Dean
beyond. |
Tim points
out that where we are standing used to be the main Roman route between
Cirencester and Gloucester. |
After
walking around the commons, we head back to the cars after a very
interesting local walk. |
