Arlingham and Barrow Hill -
6 November 2004
Those who were put off by the wet start to the morning missed a treat on Maurice's walk.
From Arlingham village we made for the River Severn and circled clockwise until we reached the Passage Inn, and across the river we had a good view of the Church at Newnham on Severn (see our walk in October)
The team photo taken outside the old Passage Inn. Marie is apparently warming up!
Lovely sands and May Hill with its trees in view on the horizon.
View through the reeds.
We continue along the bank and ....
.. turn inland to Wick Court, an old Elizabethan Manor, fully restored and now acting as a residential holiday home for City Kids with a working farm and rare breeds.
It is now painted in a delicate shade of pink!
We climb up Barrow Hill, the only high ground on the Arlingham peninsula, and having superior views from its modest 207 feet.
We go up to the trig point ...
... where we settle down for our picnic lunch.
Frances and Anne.
It almost sunshines, and you can see down to the Severn Bridge if you know where to look.
Zooming in you can see the gap where the bridge is (it is painted white these days - we hope it is still there!)
Maurice leads us on the final stage back to Arlingham village.
What date is it? Roses and hydrangeas still blooming on 6 November - no frosts yet.
