Kingswood -
19 May 2004
We are blessed with a lovely fine day as we walk through Kingswood, passing the old Abbey Gatehouse, the only surviving building of the old abbey.
English Heritage are the guardians of the site, and you can see inside the upper room by asking the custodian.
John is our leader today, standing in for Anne. He makes a fine job of it!
Here we are crossing by the former toll house near Wotton-under-Edge.
We pass near Swinhay Farm, where a local business man is building his new home, in sight of Renishaw's HQ.
Although it is a very large building, the planners have insisted that most of it will be hidden by being buried once complete.
We are glad to find some deep shade for our mid-morning stop, out of the scorching sun.
Here we are returning towards Kingswood on little used paths in the vale. Note the Tyndale monument and Westridge Woods on the skyline.
A terrible double stile awaits us just before arriving back in the village.
