Selsley Common and Woodchester Valley -
January 2004
Mike leads the weekday group for their first walk of the year over Selsley Common.
We wrap up warmly against the keen wind, and are rewarded with an amazingly clear view over the Severn Vale to the Forest of Dean.
We descend to South Woodchester...
.. where we obtain views across the valley to North Woodchester and beyond to the other side of Stroud and to Painswick Beacon on the skyline (mid right).
The sun makes a brief appearance over the woods.
We walk to the head of the valley before turning back to the other part of the village.
The locals are curious to see what we are up to.
They let us pass and we studiously avoid the puddles from the heavy overnight rain.
Eventually we reach Selsley Church and begin the climb back up to the common.
The views are excellent and we stop at least twice on our way up hill.
Over the brow we go and traverse the common as the rain threatens again. But we get away with a dry walk.
