Upton St Leonards to Prinknash - November 2003
Patrick and Angela are our first-time guides on another wonderfully bright November day in England of all places - would you ever believe it!
After a tour of Angela's allotment with its wonderful pile of manure (sorry no picture, so busy admiring the scene the camera is forgotten), Patrick leads the way across the fields near Upton St Leonards towards the hills.
Every now and again we stop for a breather and a look at the views.
On Kimsbury we have a lovely coffee stop, Here Bill and Patrick contemplate the wide vistas.
Straight ahead is Gloucester (note the Cathedral) with the Malverns clearly visible on the skyline.
To the far right is Cleeve Cloud with Cheltenham nestling beneath (note the block of the Eagle Star building - which planner allowed that?!)
And in between, Chosen Hill (or Churchdown Hill, take your pick) with the mass of Bredon Hill in the background.
Before ....................................and................................ After.
Patrick tells us how local villagers are scrub clearing to restore the common - they plan to have highland cattle to keep it clear in future.
Now we are led along the edge of the Cotswold escarpment through Popes Wood. Most of the leaves have been removed in yesterday's gales.
This historic building used to be used as Prinknash Abbey before the modern building shown below.
Guess which most people prefer the look of?
Here our co-leader Angela admires the lovely cattle in the grounds.
After a snack lunch at Prinknash Abbey we pass Birdland.
Birdland is complete with deer.
We return towards Upton in early afternoon after a super day out.
