From Tetbury to the Hermits Cave - July 2003
On one of the hottest days of the year (so far), Olivia led us from Tetbury through Avening and eventually to the Hermit's Cave. Fortunately it was not too humid.
The route out of Tetbury was slow, particularly with this diabolical stile. It was too high, ricketty, horrible half-round timber, and within 2 metres of another one! The men gallantly help Margaret across.
Soon we joined Ridge's Lane and apart from the odd overgrown place, progress was much better.
As we approached Avening we passed this charming window into the gardens of Avening Court.
We queued up for our turn, and the view was worth the wait.
Olivia ready to lead us after lunch, next stop the Hermits Cave.
First a stiff climb out of Avening near the Church on what was predominantly a level walk.
Our route is clear along the path, which forms part of the Macmillan Way.
Another welcome drinks stop in the cool of the woods.
Yes, they are investigating the Hermit's Cave, but it looked too squashy to pay a quick visit!
After an ice cream stop in Tetbury we meandered back through a charming part of the town to the Old Station Yard and our cars.
