From Bisley to Miserden - July 2003
Tracey led us on the first part of our day walk to Miserden. The walk was over a plateau with occasional steep descents and immediate climbs.
There was a select party of 10. Rain was forecast, but we had none!
Our one problem was the three fields from about 1 mile NE of Bisley to New Covert, planted with oil seed rape which had collapsed into the path made by walkers. It tugged away at each of us. Not very nice. Complaints have been made about this path over several years. Please add your voice so that action can be taken soon!
We climbed up to Sudgrove and aprreciated this lovely Cotswold scene with a beautifully tended garden - who needs Chelsea?
The stepping stones near Valley Farm were not flooded - this time people avoided them as they were extremely dangerous and slippery! We need a footbridge across the River Frome - one year ....
Through the fragrant meadowsweet.
We had an excellent lunch at the Carpenters Arms at Miserden, before setting off back to Bisley.
Up to Thougham using the sunken lane.
Heather checks the grills at Througham Manor. Last year she spotted a bedraggled hedgehog down in the bottom. Bill helped her rescue it and it was released a few days later after careful nursing. Nothing today.
The final down and up at Calfway Farm.
And shortly afterwards some young calves.
