Jacqui led a lovely morning walk from Malmesbury. Here we are returning to the town for a good lunch at The Smoking Dog.
Walking
The Abbey stands out well in this photo. The spire is unusual in that it is completely detached from the church, although it does not appear so here.
Group
In the afternoon, many of us had a delightful time visiting Abbey House Gardens, near to the Abbey. The Abbey was partially demolished by Henry VIII and half was sold off and eventually used as the Parish Church of Malmesbury. In 1994 new owners took over the Abbey House and created these wonderful gardens, which are developing all the time.
Beacon
Here you see the very striking fountain in the middle of the huge herb garden, surrounded by a collonade of trained fruit trees.
Picnic
A few plants bought, the end of a memorable day out.
